The countdown is on!

The premiere of 'The Damnation of Faust' is on the 7th of July 2023.

Almost everyone at Theater Erfurt is in the home stretch for the 30th DomStufen-Festspiele. In mid-June, around 90 people spent less than a week setting up Germany's most beautiful open-air stage. Every year, stage technicians, scaffolders, carpenters, electricians, event technicians and even network and IT specialists work hand in hand to transform Erfurt’s cathedral square into a festival site. In addition to 40 containers for technical equipment, make-up, ensemble and choir, four up to 13 meters high towers for technique and 60 loudspeakers were erected. 6 tons of split were placed at the bottom of the set design to provide a water-permeable foundation to separate the additional stair structures and fountain from the audience’s space. By the end of June, the impressive backdrop was in place and rehearsals could begin for about 70 performers in cathedral square. To ensure that the choir and soloists can be heard clearly by the nearly 2,000 spectators in the stands, a total of 87 body mics will be used for all performances. These small microphones help to amplify voices. Special tracking software is used to create the best possible sound experience on the festival site. This will allow the audience to acoustically locate the performers in the set. The Damnation of Faust (La Damnation de Faust) by Hector Berlioz will be performed a total of 20 times until 30 July 2023. We look forward to welcoming you to the 30th DomStufen-Festspiele.
