DomStufen-Festspiele in Erfurt 2006
Carl Orff based this opera on a fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm and called it “A Little World Theatre”. Once upon a time, there was a land shrouded in eternal darkness—no moon, no stars, only night. One day, four young men set off on a journey and, in a faraway land, steal the moon. They bring it home and hang it from a tree, lighting up their world at last. But eventually, the moon follows them into the realm of the dead. Peace must be restored—and it falls to Saint Peter to ensure that the moon returns to its rightful place in the sky.
