DOMINO – DomStufen-Festpiele for Children 2018 (2016)
The dove is exhausted, having just given the penguins the last two tickets for the ark before the great flood sent by God begins. However, due to lack of space, only two of each species received the life-saving boarding passes. But the two penguins can't possibly abandon their friend, the third penguin. What now?
In a wonderfully funny, irreverent, liberating, and yet profound way, Ulrich Hub's play poses the big questions about God and the world. The author is helped in his search for God by his characters – the penguins. With their naivety – perhaps comparable to that of children – they approach the questions of faith and thus repeatedly find simple and convincing answers.
For the children's production At the Ark at Eight, director and set designer Philipp J. Neumann did not limit himself to one stage as usual, but instead divided the play into three venues. The first part takes place, as always, in front of and on the cathedral steps; the second, which takes place inside the ark, is set on the raised altar island in Erfurt Cathedral; and for the concluding third part, the west portal becomes the place where the ark arrives in the new world.
