25th DomStufen Festival 2018

Be our guest!

The DomStufen Festival in Erfurt has made a resounding name for itself far beyond the boundaries of Thuringia and Germany. Since 1994 Theater Erfurt has been organizing this special open-air festival in front of the breath-taking backdrop of the Mariendom, where Martin Luther was once ordained as a priest, transforming the 70 steps on the cathedral square into a stage for operas and musicals...

Opera by Georges Bizet

Love, jealousy, bullfighting and murder – Bizet's popular opera "Carmen" tells of the bewitching gypsy who wraps every man around her little finger and thus drives the conscientious Don José to his downfall. Audiences are fascinated by the unsettling radicalism of the plot combined with the famous, well-loved melodies it features.

The Ark Leaves at 8

A play for children by Ulrich Hub

Theater Erfurt has been staging a children's play at the annual Domstufen Festival since 2009. Children and adults are captivated by the open-air drama presented against the spectacular backdrop of the Cathedral of St Mary and St Severi's Church. In 2018, our young and old visitors to Domino will be able once again to enjoy the children's play "The Ark Leaves at Eight" by Ulrich Hub, winner of the German Children's Theatre Prize.
