The Trip to Panama
Little Tiger and Little Bear have a good life: they have a lovely home and, most importantly, they have each other, so there is nothing for them to be afraid of. One day, Little Bear fishes a crate out of the river behind their house. The crate is marked “Panama” and smells wonderfully delicious – of bananas. Little Bear knows at once: “Panama smells of bananas. Panama is the land of my dreams.” He immediately tells Little Tiger about his discovery. It does not take them long to make up their minds: “We’re going to Panama together!”
On their journey, the two friends have many adventures. But when you have such a good friend by your side, there is nothing to be afraid of. They meet all kinds of animals and eventually encounter a crow, who gives them a new perspective on their old – and soon to be new – home. And when they finally arrive in what they believe to be Panama, it looks almost exactly like the home they left behind. Only more beautiful, because everything they have experienced and learned along the way has travelled back with them.
Sebastian Gabriel (music) and Marc Schwämmlein (text) have transformed Janosch’s timeless children’s classic into a joyful musical that inspires not only a love of travel, but above all a sense of excitement for the adventures waiting right at home. For the DomStufen Festival, they are revisiting and adapting their musical especially for Erfurt, inviting audiences to join Little Tiger and Little Bear in looking forward to “adventure, freedom, sunshine and the wide, wonderful world”.
