Yesterday morning, a true downpour in Thuringia flooded the streets and basements. The pressing question on everyones mind: Will the magnificent setting and all the stage technology withstand the weather? Will the premiere of the DomStufen-Festspiele be washed out? These thoughts occupied the entire ensemble, the media, and all the guests who had purchased premiere tickets. Fortunately, the weather god showed mercy, and by 6 PM, the sky cleared as the sun sent its rays through the clouds. The damage on the festival grounds was limited, and thanks to the diligent helpers, the stage and seats were dry again in time for the performance. Even the last defective seats were repaired, and thus the sold-out premiere of Anatevka could start almost on time.
The entire ensemble of over 100 performers offered the audience a musical spectacle of the highest level. Chamber singer Máté Sólyom-Nagy touched everyone's heart in the title role of the milkman Tevye, providing goosebump moments with much humor as well as sensitive and poignant dialogues. Great choral scenes, powerful dialogues, and perfectly rehearsed dances with impressive choreography made the three hours pass in a flash. The captivating music with the well-known catchy tune If I Were a Rich Man, was played live by the Erfurt Philharmonic Orchestra under the musical direction of Clemens Fieguth from the Theater Erfurt. The enthusiastic final applause from over 2,100 guests was received by Clemens Fieguth on behalf of the entire orchestra — thanks to a lightning-fast vehicle from Sternauto and the coolest driver.
At the subsequent premiere celebration at the Dorint Hotel, Minister of Interior Georg Maier – representing Minister President Bodo Ramelow – gave a welcome address and expressed his admiration and appreciation for the artistic performance of the ensemble. Head of Artistic Administration Malte Wasem extended heartfelt thanks to all the staff, the ensemble, and everyone involved for their tireless efforts, and wished the audience continued rain-free performances at the DomStufen-Festspiele in Erfurt in 2024.
