2 weeks to go until Opening Night

Today for the first time Theater Erfurt's ensemble gathered in cathedral square right in front of the spectacular scenery for the world-famous musical Fiddler on the Roof, which will premiere on 2 August 2024.

An overturned milk churn, eight metres long and five metres wide, is resting on the cathedral's steps now, spilling milk down the 70 steps. In addition to the giant milk churn, symbolising the milkman's shattered world as well as the pogroms. Several formations of broken wood and glass suggest the silhouettes of Anatevka’s houses, creating interior and exterior spaces and referring, among other things, to the Jewish wedding tradition of breaking glass. Last week, around 90 employees from departments such as stagehands, event technology, scaffolding and carpentry made sure that the impressive set, the grandstand as well as four up to 13 metres high technical towers, 60 loudspeakers and a total of 40 containers for technology, make-up department, ensemble and choir were ready in time for the final rehearsal period.

After a welcome speech and safety briefing at the festival site, director Ulrich Wiggers took over and started rehearsing immediately.
