Yesterday, the doors of the DomStufen-Festspiele site opened for the last time. During the last three weeks of August, 19 of the 20 performances of the world-famous musical Fiddler on the Roof took place to sold-out audiences. Only one performance had to be cancelled due to weather conditions. On the 18th of August, heavy and persistent rain prevented the performance of more than 100 artists and forced the 2,100 visitors to leave.
This year's sell-out was 99.5 per cent, to the great joy and satisfaction of the Theater Erfurt. Nearly 40,000 festival visitors were captivated from the first to the last minute by this timeless story, which resonated emotionally with themes of tradition, community and resilience in challenging times. The character of Tevye the milkman, portrayed in a double cast by chamber singer Máté Sólyom-Nagy and Rainer Zaun, touched everyone's heart. The stirring music, including the well-known catchy show tune “If I Were a Rich Man”, was performed live in its usual quality by the Erfurt Philharmonic Orchestra from the Theater Erfurt. The musical direction was in the hands of Clemens Fieguth, who ensured an audio masterpiece in ideal climatic and acoustic conditions, using state-of-the-art transmission technology. Magnificent choral scenes, dynamic movements and spectacular dances, set against the impressive backdrop of the Cathedral and St Severi's Church, received much applause and left the audience completely satisfied.
