Hans in Luck premieres on Saturday
The story of Hans, who is repeatedly tricked into making unfavorable deals and ends up empty-handed instead of with a lump of gold, but not unhappy, is one of the most famous fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm.
At the DOMINO - DomStufen-Festspiele für die Kleinen, fairytale fans young and old can enjoy an operatic version of Hans in Luck. Our Hans, sung and played by Konstantin Ingenpass, will try his luck a total of ten times right on the cathedral square, against the backdrop of Anatevka. Always at his side is the Master, portrayed by Aaron Eunhyuk Lee.
On his way home, Hans encounters the Master in various guises and is repeatedly tempted to exchange his possessions. In the end, he trades the gold for a horse, the horse for a cow, the cow for a pig, the pig for a goose and the goose for a whetstone, which ends up falling into a well. Soprano Candela Gotelli takes on the different animal roles, with energetic support from puppeteer Caspar Bankert. The orchestra – under the musical direction of Leonie Bulenda – consists of five instruments: flute, clarinet, cello, accordion and percussion, all of which are visible on stage. During today's rehearsal on the cathedral square, director Alexandra Pape worked closely with set and costume designer Tamara Stotz to make some final adjustments. After all, everything has to be perfectly visible and audible for the young audience.
We're keeping our fingers crossed for the entire ensemble during these final rehearsals and are looking forward to this very special theatre experience.
